Recently bought a new pair of Merrell walking shoes as the first pair I had were very good. This new pair only lasted a few weeks before the rubber on both started to give way and deteriorate. Big holes and lets the water in. Useless to wear unless its pavement and not raining.

I ordered both sizes based on reviews, but the 8 fit better and since my old Merrill's were an 8 that made sense. I ordered the taupe color figuring that would blend with most clothing. I ordered these for an upcoming trip to Portugal. My daughter who lives in Lisbon tells me most young women wear sneakers with all types of clothing.

The bottom line is that the Merrell Trail Glove is a decent minimalist running shoe. The shoe has a lot of room for improvements, which luckily were made in the newer models of the shoe. Oddly enough though, the improvements made weren’t all that drastic, yet together they really made the shoe a lot better.

It saddens me to write this, as I have been a long-term lover of Merrell shoes, however their quality in recent times has gone to hell. The last two pairs of shoes I purchased began to fall apart within three months of gentle use. I would no longer recommend buying Merrell products at any price.

I have been wearing Merrell for over 10 years and have always gravitated toward the Moab. I normally take 7.5 but recently have had some difficulties with the Moab 2 as the width does not feel as wide as prior years. However, the Alverstones fit great with very good arch support. They had more cushion than the Moab and are much more comfortable.

Traditionally a solid size 8 in Merrell and other brands but had to go up to size 9 in these to accommodate my orthotics. But still they were just too darn tight and sadly painful to try on. No socks with these shoes (tried on with my Bombas no show socks which just bunched up).
