Easter is nearly here, and just like all other holidays you celebrate, it can end up costing more than you thought. There are methods to stay within your budget when preparing for Easter. From the Easter hat to the Easter basket, we have got you covered. Here are our top tips to save money on Easter.
Don't buy unique Easter clothes
If you require dress clothes, by all means, get them, but be reasonable. A simple white dress or pastel shirt can be excellent for Easter and remain worn for weddings, family pictures, and other events for the next several months. The similar rule goes for shoes, hair bows, socks, etc. Easy is practical and timeless.
Don't buy retail
The increase in retail clothing is tremendous. For the same high-quality clothing, hit up your local consignment stores, yard sales/garage sales, or hold out online sites like eBay and Poshmark. The first in the season you shop resale, the better the selections are.
Again, reference your list of requirements and buy varied pieces that mix and match. You can store TONS of money at consignment stores and garden sales. Plus, kids discard clothes long before they cover them out, so often, your second-hand buying will look brand new!
Don't buy prewrapped Easter baskets
We know these are so easy to grasp when you are stressed and hurried, but you are throwing away your hard-earned money on junk: cheap baskets, plastic grass, low-quality toys and candy, and emptiness of substance or usefulness.
Instead, try one of the following:
- For the non-crafty out there – check your home for ANYTHING that strengthens work as an Easebater "basket": a small trunk, an Amazon box you can gift wrap, any beautiful basket in your home, a covered bucket, even a large mixing bowl! The kids don't care even a bit of the basket! Besides, if you buy a unique basket, you're either going to throw it away or have to store it until next year.
- For the crafty ones – google "Make Your Own Easter Basket" and become a ball with your kids the week ere Easter! A pack of building paper or a paper bag, some markers, crayons, and tape may be all you want for an afternoon of cheap fun together. Come Easter morning, and your kids will love seeing their creations as part of the display!
Do look for coupons
Verify your mailbox flyers and websites for all the Easter specials. You'll be shocked how many things are on sale, from candy to toys to sports facilities. A little research and price identification can save you several dollars! If you end up buying online with coupon codes, sign up for Rakuten first.
Do make your own Easter eggs
Not only is this play for the kids – it's super easy!
- One way is to color your eggs by combining 1 Tablespoon food coloring with 2 Teaspoons of vinegar in a measuring bowl. Add 4-6 oz. of water, and voila! You're able to dip your boiled eggs. The longer you drop them, the darker the color will be.
- Another way is to use sponge marks, brands, and puff paints and let your kids color eggs with polka dots, zig-zags, and twists.
Both choices are great for storing in the grass or sprucing up your Easter Brunch table!
Do fill your eggs
Be sure to introduce healthy snacks and homemade goodies.
- Eggs can be loaded with coins, stickers, pencil erasers, hair ties, and, of course, sweet. A great way to save cash on all these things is to pair up with other parents and buy party packs and bulk candy to break. This way, the kids get a complete variety of items, and you spend less!
- Incorporate healthy snacks like raisins, trail mix, fruit strips, peanut butter crackers, and such. They're now on the "you buy them anyway" list – so take benefit of the money you've allocated for these afterschool snacks and add them as features to their baskets!
- Homemade goodies. Rice Krispie treats, brownies, sugar cookies, etc., can be made and personally covered as extra-special treats!
Do take your family portraits
Once everybody has their Easter outlay, get decked up, find an excellent location in your yard or local park, and let your camera or cell phone save you the expense of a professional photographer.
- For best results, pick an overcast day or benefit from the very early morning or very late afternoon golden light.
- To make it even more comfortable, switch off with another family and take each other's photos.
When you have professional photographs practiced, not only is there a session fee, but there is also much pressure to buy large packages and oversized portraits you don't want or even require. You want one good shot for a photo frame, scrapbook, and social media. Doing them yourself can save you a number of dollars!
